Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role

We are seeking an energetic, efficient and motivated Occupational Therapist to join our inpatient Orthopaedic and amputee MDT.  The team is part of the wider Allied Health Inpatient team at Kenepuru Community Hospital.  This ward focuses on rehabilitation for patients with orthopaedic injuries and amputations, and this role will also provide support on the older adult wards and neuro-rehabilitation ward when required. Support to upskill will be provided to ensure confidence in each working area.

The emphasis of this role is on timely and high quality Occupational Therapy input, as part of a MDT approach to delivery of care. The ability to assess and contribute to decision making and complex discharge planning as part of a team, is crucial for this role. This position provides mentorship to rotational Occupational Therapists, students and delegates work to Allied Health Assistants.

Mō tō mātou rōpū – About our team

The inpatient MDT is a close-knit team of Allied Health, nursing and medical colleagues, based at Kenepuru Hospital. We are a team that loves to learn and upskill, and enjoy shared lunches and complete things like wordle or the daily quiz together.

This role sits within the wider Kenepuru Inpatient Allied Health team which consists of over 35 Allied Health staff from five different professions and includes our assistant workforce.  We work together closely to provide a service of high standard to patients and their families and whanau.  We are a very supportive team who provide training and learning opportunities, supervision, encourage professional development and have fun and laughter along the way. Our recent service improvements include introducing Inter-Professional-Practice models, an Amputee pathway, a Stroke Pathway, working closer with our early supported discharge team (known as AWHI), and working in closer collaboration with our nursing and medical colleagues. We continue to grow in our cultural responsiveness as a team and a service, and we welcome anyone who is also on the journey to improve health equity outcomes for Maori and Pacific peoples to join us as we learn and improve together.

Moū – About you

You will be an NZ Registered Occupational Therapist with a current APC who has recent experience in the hospital inpatient setting (ideally with experience in an orthopaedic and amputee inpatient setting).  You will have a clear understanding of the health needs of our Māori and Pacific communities and a drive to reduce inequities and improve health outcomes. As this role requires home visits, you will have a current drivers licence. This role can be suitable for a new graduate Occupational Therapist.
