Occupational Therapist

Location: Kenepuru Community Hospital

Contract: Permanent, Part time 0.95 FTE (38 hours per week)

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. Through integration and collaboration, we’re building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whānau-centred care, and excellence.

About the Role

The Kenepuru Community ORA Team is excited to advertise the opportunity for another Occupational Therapist to join our multi-disciplinary service.  This role is a community based role, working within an interdisciplinary team that works collaboratively to support patients through equipment provision, housing modifications and rehab solutions to maximise their independence at home and their functional goals. We are looking for Occupational Therapists who are able to use their skills across our service areas– working in a rehabilitative way to improve patient’s well-being, as well as expanding their practice within wheeled mobility provision and applying their skills to an early response strategy, all offering diversity and professional development opportunity within the role.

About the Team/Service/Location

The ORA Community Services work with people with acquired neurological, long term, or age-related conditions including stroke, dementia, frailty and post trauma conditions.  The teams are multidisciplinary including Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech-language Therapists, Social Workers, Dietitians, Liaison Nurses and Allied Health Assistants, with close links with Nurse Practitioners, Geriatricians and a Rehabilitation Physician.  There are three community teams geographically located in Wellington, Porirua (Kenepuru) and Kapiti.

We offer on-going professional development opportunities including inter-professional practice training, professional support, profession specific training though the relevant professional leaders and clinical supervision. Cultural professional supervision is available from Māori and Pacific Health teams.

About you

We are looking for an Occupational Therapist who is a team player and has a broad range of skills with an interest in working in a community setting. Occupational Therapists in our team assist individuals and families, providing assessment and advice for equipment, wheeled mobility and housing modification to best support their needs. Occupational therapists in our team also work with patients who are working towards rehabilitation goals and our clinicians can provide interventions and guidance in their rehabilitation journey alongside other experienced MDT clinicians. An understanding of Enable processes would be a strong advantage.  You will have sound clincial skills and experience working with  older adults and thrive in a team environment.

We require you to bring your holistic skills, enthusiasm and passion to achieve the best outcome for your patients.  You will have current registration/APC and a current New Zealand driver’s license.   You will be able to demonstrate ability to build rapport with patient and whānau from all backgrounds and have a clear understanding of the health needs of our Māori and Pacific Island communities. If you are passionate about being the best you can be, thrive on working in a team setting and are ready to expand your practice further then we’d love to hear from you. We strongly encourage applicants from all backgrounds with the right skills and experience who share our values to apply and would greatly value seeing more applicants from our Māori and Pacific Peoples communities.
