Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the service
The Oral Maxillo Facial Service is a tertiary service provided at Hutt Hospital and provides regional services to the Capital and Coast, Wairarapa, Mid Central, Taranaki, Hawke’s Bay, Nelson/Marlborough and Whanganui areas, servicing a population of over 1 million people.
The service currently comprises five oral and maxillofacial surgeons. The service is supported by four dental house officers and a SET OMFS RMO. The maxillofacial surgical staff work closely with hospital dental service.
Mō tō mātou rōpū – About the role
This role will be involved in all aspects of inpatient and outpatient oral and maxillofacial surgery. Responsibilities will include:
- Provision of outpatient clinics, including surgical procedures using sedation and local anaesthesia
- Supervised theatre operating for elective and acute cases
- Be responsible to the admitting consultant (where appropriate) for the supervision of admissions and discharges, investigatory procedures, changes in treatment and similar matters.
- Participate in an out of hours/on call roster
- Attend regional clinic/theatre sessions with consultants (while the role is based at Hutt Hospital, regular travel to Wellington and Hawkes Bay is a core requirement of this position).

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
- Recent experience and knowledge in dental and/or oral and maxillofacial surgery
- Able to deal with a wide range of conditions both acutely and electively
- Works well in a collaboration with the multidisciplinary team
Essential Professional Qualifications / Accreditations / Registrations:
- Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand and/or New Zealand Dental Council, or through comparable health systems pathway with full registration in the country of origin
- If applying from overseas, you must meet the New Zealand Immigration Service requirements
