Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role

  • Medicine Registrar position as a Palliative Advanced Trainee
  • Commencing 3 August 2026.

We are offering two exceptional three-year Advanced Training positions in Palliative Medicine based in the vibrant Greater Wellington region. This is a unique opportunity to gain comprehensive, high-quality training across a diverse range of clinical settings, supported by an experienced and collaborative specialist team.

Trainees will rotate through:

  • Wellington Regional Hospital (including the Wellington Blood and Cancer Centre and a wide range of tertiary medical specialties)
  • Mary Potter Hospice in Wellington
  • Te Omanga Hospice in Lower Hutt

This structure provides broad exposure to inpatient and community hospice care, hospital-based advisory palliative medicine, and oncology services. On-call responsibilities are included across most services, ensuring rich, hands-on clinical experience.

Trainees will follow the new 2026 RACP Palliative Medicine Advanced Training Curriculum (available via the RACP website). Dedicated non-clinical time is built into the programme to support study, research, and completion of the Advanced Training project.

Our palliative medicine specialists work closely together across settings, fostering a strong culture of collaboration, mentorship, and education. Trainees benefit from meaningful interdisciplinary learning alongside highly valued nursing and allied health colleagues, preparing them for broad and rewarding consultant practice.

If you are seeking a supportive training environment with diverse clinical exposure and strong educational foundations, we warmly encourage you to apply.
