Physiotherapist (Experienced Clinician - Acute Medical)
Location: Wellington Regional Hospital
Contract: Fixed Term (until 28 August 2026), Full Time (part time considered – please state hours in cover letter if wanting less than full time)

About the Role
Salary: MECA Step 3 to Step 8, $88,627 - $110,210, dependant on experience
This position is fixed term until the end of August 2026. Preference is for full time working but part time hours would be considered for a suitable candidate.
This role is based across our acute medical services with varying patient presentations. Caseload will sit within the acute medical and oncology wards and the acute frailty and medical assessment unit. You will work closely with the advanced, experienced and rotational physiotherapists in these areas, as well as our allied health assistant team. Work will be required at times to support service provision across all inpatient areas. Patient caseload will vary spanning acute medical, oncology, frailty and assessment and discharge.
The position is part of our wider inpatient physiotherapy team at Wellington Regional Hospital, treating patients across all specialities at the hospital. The role sits within our neuro/med/onc/ortho mini-team, consisting of advanced, experienced and rotational physiotherapists. Cover will be required across the hospital as service need indicates.
This role also includes on call and weekend working commitments, covering Wellington Regional Hospital – adult and paediatric patients.

The Wellington Physiotherapy Team work predominantly in the inpatient setting at Wellington Regional Hospital. Our friendly, enthusiastic team includes coordinators, expert, advanced, experienced and rotational physiotherapists.

About you
We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced physiotherapist with drive and a passion for patients across our acute medical services.
- Minimum of 3 years post graduate experience, broad experience in acute specialities, with evidence of specific acute medical and/or oncology experience essential
- New Zealand Registered Physiotherapist with Annual Practicing Certificate.
- Clinical skills across a broad range of specialities, including but not limited to, oncology – including palliative care, acute medical, renal, frailty, vestibular assessment and treatment, acute respiratory, acute neurology
- Able to share specialty clinical knowledge to physiotherapy, allied, nursing and medical teams
- Team player, able to work collaboratively across physiotherapy and the multidisciplinary team
- On call and weekend competencies and experience essential
- Working knowledge of quality improvement, a desire to contribute to the team, and a commitment to the best possible patient outcomes.
- Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
