Physiotherapist - ICU/HDU
Location: Wellington Regional Hospital
Contract: Fixed Term, Full time (plus on call and weekend additional)

About the Role
This role is based primarily in the ICU and is a fixed term, parental leave cover until 1 August 2027.
The physiotherapist in this role will work predominantly with patients in the Intensive Care and High Dependency Units. The critical care complex cares for medical, surgical and trauma patients with high acuity needs. This position sits within our cardiorespiratory team, cover across this team and the wider inpatient team is required as the service need indicates.
This role also includes on call and weekend working commitments, covering Wellington Regional Hospital – adult and paediatric patients.
About the Team/Service Location
The Wellington Physiotherapy Team work predominantly in the inpatient setting at Wellington Regional Hospital. Our friendly, enthusiastic team includes coordinators, expert, advanced, experienced and rotational physiotherapists.

This role will also work closely with the medical, nursing and allied health teams in MAPU and ED, including our new pilot ED Allied Health Coordinator roles.
About you
- Minimum of 3-5 years clinical practice, with experience across a range of acute inpatient settings including critical care, cardiorespiratory, orthopaedic and neurology areas, with adults and paediatric patients.
- Ability to work on the on call and weekend rota, covering both adult and paediatric service.
- Skills in working with:
- Acute cardiorespiratory presentations in high acuity settings such as Intensive Care and high dependency beds (essential)
- Patients with acute neurological needs, including acute stroke, particularly post-surgery. (Desirable)
- Those with end of life / palliative care needs. (Desirable)
- New Zealand Registered Physiotherapist with Annual Practicing Certificate.
- Able to share specialty clinical knowledge to physiotherapy, allied, nursing and medical teams
- Team player, able to work collaboratively across physiotherapy and the multidisciplinary team
- Working knowledge of quality improvement, a desire to contribute to the team, and a commitment to the best possible patient outcomes.
- Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
