Physiotherapist (Older Adults and Rehabilitation)
Location: Wellington Regional Hospital
Contract: Permanent Full Time & Part Time Positions available. Please state in your cover letter what hours you are seeking
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. Through integration and collaboration, we’re building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whānau-centred care, and excellence.
About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for two passionate Physiotherapists (part-time or full-time) to join our well-established and forward-thinking Older Adults and Rehabilitation Service in the community.
This is more than just a role — it’s a chance to work where your expertise truly matters. We’re looking for experienced Physiotherapists who are motivated by public health, thrive in community-based practice, and are committed to delivering meaningful rehabilitation close to where people live.
Whether your strengths lie in acquired health conditions, frailty, rehabilitation, or vestibular assessment and treatment within a neuro outpatient setting, we can shape the role to reflect your skills and interests. There is also an opportunity to expand your expertise in Wheeled Mobility for clinicians keen to broaden their scope of practice.
You’ll work alongside older adults and people living with long-term conditions to help them achieve what matters most to them — maximising mobility, independence, and quality of life.
Your work will include:
- Individualised rehabilitation programmes
- Equipment prescription and mobility solutions
- Falls prevention and education
- Compensatory strategies to support safe independence
- Collaborative goal-setting with patients and whānau
Every day brings variety, autonomy, and the satisfaction of seeing tangible outcomes in the community.
About the Team/Service Location
Ours is a Team that truly values you. Our Physiotherapists are highly respected members of a strong, collaborative multidisciplinary team. You’ll be supported by experienced colleagues across Physiotherapy and alongside Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, Nurses, Dietitians, Speech-Language Therapists, and Geriatricians.
We pride ourselves on working collegially and inclusively — sharing knowledge, supporting one another, and combining our expertise to deliver holistic, person-centred care.
Our Services supports people living with acquired neurological, long-term, and age-related conditions — including frailty, dementia, neurological disorders, and post-trauma rehabilitation needs. Our focus is on enabling people to live well in their own homes and communities.
Based in Wellington City, we are one of four community teams across the Capital Coast and Hutt Valley district. We are a large, well-established, and co-located team with a strong culture of joint assessment, shared clinical reasoning, and collaborative planning to achieve the best outcomes for our patients.
If you value teamwork, clinical depth, shared learning, and making a meaningful impact in the community — you’ll thrive here.
About you
Our successful candidate will be an NZ Registered Physiotherapist with a current APC, drivers licence and have experience in working with acquired health conditions. You will have excellent communication and time-management skills, enjoy working within a team, and be able to develop positive relationships with a variety of hospital based and primary care professionals. Vestibular experience will be beneficial, but we can also support upskilling and training for the right applicant.
You will need:
- A current APC and be registered with the Physiotherapy Board of New Zealand
- Current registration and Annual practicing certificate
- A clear understanding of the health needs of our Māori and Pacific Island communities
- Demonstrates ability to build rapport with patient and whānau from all backgrounds
- A full Driver’s License
- Working visa/NZ residence (as appropriate)
