Contract: Fixed Term (until August 2025), Part Time (0.5 FTE / 20 hours per week)

About the Role 

This is an opportunity to work with a dynamic multi-disciplinary Hutt based team within the wider Wellington Regional Pain Service to assess and support people with chronic / persistent pain.  You will be part of an MDT assessment and group based therapeutic sessions as well as seeing patients one-on one.   You will promote self-management based strategies to a wide spectrum of pain conditions, as well as providing ACC funded community pain services. 

This role is fixed term due to an impending structural changes of the organisation to be confirmed and implemented in the next 2-3 months.  The advertised hours are secure and will be required long-term, but some of the conditions may change in the course of the re-structure. 

About the Team/Service/Location 

The Pain Management Service is a multi-disciplinary team for people with persistent pain. It accepts referrals for people whose pain is causing, or creating the risk of developing, significant pain-related disability and preventing them from undertaking their usual activities, including work. 

The Pain Management team takes a strong Allied Health led Inter-disciplinary approach to providing assessment, treatment and rehabilitation for people with persistent pain. Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists provide pain management interventions within group and individual settings and take on the key worker roles for ACC with the support of the wider team. 

About you 

A physiotherapist (fourth year of practice onwards) provides safe and clinically effective patient/client assessment and intervention, within the clinical area of pain management. 

The Physiotherapist in this role guides physical conditioning and restoration of physical function in the presence of persistent pain.  The physiotherapist helps patients transition from pain as symptom to being the disease and helps increase confidence in the integrity of the body by bridging theory and practice – education and movement - together.   

  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • 3 years post-graduate experience 
  • Interest in supporting self-management
  • Flexibility – to be able to adapt to ongoing changes of the health system 
  • A good team player but also able to work autonomously and comfortable with self-directed learning
