Principal Medical Physicist – Projects
Location: Wellington Regional Hospital
Contract: Permanent, Part Time (0.5 FTE / 20 hours per week)

We have a great opportunity for a Principal Medical Physicist to join us in our radiation oncology medical physics service in a dedicated project management role, reporting directly to the Group Manager – Blood, Cancer, Palliative Care & Radiology.
The radiation oncology service is part of an integrated cancer centre that operates Varian systems including 3 TrueBeam linacs, Bravos HDR brachytherapy and ARIA/Eclipse software. A full range of contemporary radiation treatments is provided.
We are seeking a Principal Medical Physicist with significant experience managing major radiation oncology equipment projects and either ACPSEM registration or an international equivalent.
About the Team/Service Location
The medical physics team is a friendly and supportive group of 15 people with an international flavour. We work at a high professional standard and present work at conferences and publish in peer reviewed journals. The team is accredited by the Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (ACPSEM) for postgraduate training of medical physicists.
About you
Critical requirements for the role are:
- MSc Physics / Medical Physics or PhD Physics / Medical Physics from an ACPSEM accredited university in New Zealand or an overseas equivalent
- ACPSEM Certification and Registration in Radiation Oncology Medical Physics, or an overseas equivalent
- Significant and relevant clinical experience in radiation oncology medical physics
- Significant and relevant experience managing major radiation treatment equipment projects
- Able to achieve high standards of professional competency
- Self-directed and high degree of personal initiative
- Able to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team as well as independently
- Able to prioritize and work to deadlines
- Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Able to direct the work of others and supervise less experienced members of staff
