Provisional Cardiac Physiologist
Location: Wellington Regional Hospital and Hutt Hospital
Contract: 12 month Fixed Term, Full Time

About the Role
Salary: $82,856
The Cardiac Physiology service is comprised of a dedicated team of Cardiac Physiologists and Cardiac Physiology Technicians who collaborate closely with physicians, administrative, and support staff to deliver high-quality, efficient, and patient-centred care for both inpatients and outpatients.
Cardiac Physiologists are responsible for performing cardiac tests within their defined scope of practice, which demands extensive practical and technical expertise in understanding cardiac arrhythmias and their mechanisms.
A Provisional Cardiac Physiologist learns to perform all cardiac diagnostic tests to a high standard ensuring the needs of patients accessing the cardiology service are met. To become qualified, the Provisional Cardiac Physiologist must complete all modules of the post graduate Diploma in Medical Technology which is designed to run concurrently with the Certification of Cardiac Physiologists (CCP) practical programme. During the practical training, a Provisional Cardiac Physiologist is clinically supervised as they progress through a competency assessment process. This will prepare them for practical certification and working independently as a Cardiac Physiologist.
About the Team/Service Location
The Cardiology Service is a Secondary and Tertiary service provided for Te Whatu Ora Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley (CC & HV) and those of the central region of New Zealand.
Cardiology at CC & HV includes:
- Outpatient Clinics
- Cardiac Diagnostic Testing
- The Heart and Lung Unit
- Cardiac Interventional Suite, providing the following procedures:
- Coronary Angiograms
- Left & right heart studies
- Coronary intervention and CTO
- Balloon Valvuloplasty and TAVI
- PFO/ASD/LAA Closure
- Pacing, ICD and CRT implants
- Electrophysiology Studies, 3D mapping and Ablation
Cardiac Physiology Service includes:
- Pacing/ICD follow-up service, including remote monitoring, travelling clinics and on call service
- Cath Lab, Implants, TAVI and Electrophysiology
- Echocardiography
- Exercise Tolerance Testing
- Ambulatory monitoring- Holters, Events & BP
- Training of Provisional Cardiac Physiologists, Cardiac Physiology Technicians and other Health Care staff
The CC & HV Cardiology Service is accredited as an SCT training facility.

Knowledge, skills & Experience:
- Keen interest and knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology.
- Prior experience with cardiac testing/monitoring is desirable.
- Post Graduate Certificate in Medical Technology and Certificate of Physiological Measurement is desirable.
- Expected to obtain the Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Technology, whilst completing the practical Certification of Cardiac Physiologists (CCP) within 1 year. Both programmes are financially supported by Wellington Regional Hospital.
Essential Professional Qualifications / Accreditations / Registrations:
- Bachelor of Science degree
- Be eligible to sit the Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Technology through Otago University
- Be eligible to complete the CCP programme through the Society of cardiopulmonary Technology
- Be eligible to register as a Provisional Cardiac Physiologist with the Clinical Physiology Registration Board.
