Psychologist (Clinical or Health) - Cancer Support
Location: Capital, Coast & Hutt Valley Hospital Network (Hutt Hospital preferred)
Contract: Permanent, Part-time (This can be either a 0.5FTE or 0.6 FTE position - please state on your cover letter your preferred hours

About the Role
Salary: Steps 1 -10 (APEX Psychology SECA)
We are excited to offer this opportunity for a registered Clinical or Health Psychologist (Kaimātai Hinengaro) to join our district specialist cancer allied health team. In this role you will provide psychological care for patients and their whānau following a new or recent diagnosis of cancer, with a goal of helping them to manage its impact in their lives, promoting psychological resilience, and adjusting to serious-illness. Our small, but passionate team, work across the Capital, Coast & Hutt Valley district, with an outreach psychology service for those living in the Wairarapa. This role is traditionally based at Hutt Hospital, however depending on the applicant an alternative model may be explored.
Duties will include:
- Conducting thorough psychological assessments
- Formulating and implementing evidence-based psychological interventions
- Providing clinical advice and support to the wider MDT when needed
- Maximising the person’s ability to cope and engage with their treatment plan
- Ensuring that service users have timely and equitable access to psychological support
- Contributing to our local and national ongoing education and service development programmes
About the Team/Service Location
You will be joining a friendly, dynamic and highly motivated group of allied health professionals who are dedicated to improving the health outcomes of those living with cancer. We value collaborative working, and support other professions and services to grow their skills and capabilities in the provision or psychological and social support, as well as providing direct support to people diagnosed with cancer, and their whānau.
About you
This role will suit applicants from a broad range of clinical experiences. As a more experienced clinician, you will have the opportunity to grow and develop our service. As a newer graduate or early career clinician, you will be supported to learn about oncology and develop your skills. You will:
- Be a registered psychologist with clinical or health scope of practice
- Hold a current New Zealand Annual Practicing Certificate
- Have a range of experience of working with people who have complex needs
- Have a commitment and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (and application to health) and a willingness to work positively to improve health outcomes for Māori
- Have experience working with Māori and Pacific peoples (desirable)
- Have experience working with people affected by cancer (desirable)
- Have experience of working in a health care setting (desirable)
