Location: Based at Te Whare Tipu, Mount Victoria within the Specialist Maternal Mental Health Team. Provides coordination for the Lower North Island perinatal teams

Contract: Permanent, Part Time (0.5 FTE )/20 hours per week

About the Role

The Specialist Maternal Mental Health service based in Wellington has a part time permanent role for a mental health professional working as a Regional Perinatal Mental Health Coordinator, who will  identify, coordinate and support the provision of training and learning opportunities to mental health and community services locally and in the Central Region, for those working with mothers and babies in the Perinatal space. As well as maintaining and developing relationships and networks with key organisations and having a strategic focus on ongoing local and regional developments.

The key functions of this role include:

  • Assisting with the ongoing development of perinatal mental health care across the Central Region.
  • Providing a coordinating / support role for the regional perinatal mental health network in the Central Region.
  • Identifying opportunities and responding to requests for training and skill development within Te Whatu Ora Central region and Non-Government Organisation (NGO) staff locally and across the Central Region.
  • Support the SMMH Team Leader and other stakeholder in strategic direction and service development.

About the Team/Service Location

The Specialist Maternal Mental Health Team provides services for clients who develop moderate to severe mental health issues during their pregnancy, and/or in the postnatal period up to 12 months after delivery at the point of referral.

Clients experiencing moderate to severe mood, anxiety or psychotic disorder, living in the greater Wellington region (Greater Wellington and Hutt areas), are seen for assessment, treatment  and intervention. The team works alongside other health care providers and offers consultation / liaison to health professionals involved in the care of this client group. SMMH also has a regional mental health perinatal coordination role supporting training and regional service development in the lower North Island Region. SMMH provides a part-time consultation / liaison role in the Wairarapa.

About you

The ideal applicant will have a mental health background, experience working in community and some understanding of issues related to the perinatal period. Be self-motivated and passionate about the wellbeing of Mamas and pepi and want to work with those delivering services to this client group and have the skills and vision to work strategically to improve perinatal services.

You will have registration with the relevant professional registration body (e.g., Nursing Council of New Zealand as a Registered Nurse, Registered Social Worker, Registered Clinical Psychologist, Registered Occupational Therapist ).
