Registered Mental Health Nurse – For RIDCAS
Location: Palmerston North but expected to work across the Central District.
Contract: Permanent, Part Time (0.8 FTE) Rostered and Rotating.

About the Role
This position is for a Community Registered Nurse working within the community team of the Intellectual Disability Service (RIDCAS). To provide assessment and treatment services and education in the MidCentral region and Whanganui region; and as a Consultation Liaison team which provides assessment and support in the central region to patients whose behaviour has resulted in legal proceedings.
The Registered Nurse working hours will be Monday to Friday (ordinary business hours) and as a regional team will work across the central region as required.
MHAIDS nursing is a specialist area of nursing. Nurses employed in MHAIDS must complete a pre- registration program or post graduate program in Mental Health or intellectual disability nursing.
The Registered Nurse (RN) role is to meet the needs of people and whanau accessing our services using contemporary nursing care which is safe, appropriate and effective. The care is based on comprehensive assessment, ensures continuity, and is person/whānau centred, culturally appropriate and evidence-based. Quality improvement and patient safety is an important part of this role.
The RN will respond to the changing needs of Te Whatu Ora, performing other tasks as required. The RN is expected to contribute to the implementation of District and nursing goals and values, and to promote Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand Capital, Coast, Hutt Valley and Wairarapa as a centre of excellence for nursing practice.
About the Team/Service Location
The Community team provides two functions: as a Mental Health Intellectual Disability Team which provides consultation/liaison and training in the central region; and as a Consultation Liaison team which provides assessment and support in the central region to patients whose behaviour has resulted in legal proceedings.
About you
Essential Professional Qualifications / Accreditations / Registrations skills and experience:
- Registration with Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ).
- A current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) and scope appropriate to place of work.
- Completion of an undergraduate (leading to registration) or post graduate programme in mental health (or intellectual disability) nursing.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the significance of and obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, including how to apply Te Tiriti principles in a meaningful way in the nursing role.
- A commitment to achieving equitable outcomes for Māori.
- A personal commitment to on-going learning and development including attainment/maintenance of PDRP .
- Full drivers licence.
