Registered Mental Health Nurse for Specialist Maternal Mental Health Service

About the Role 

The Specialist Maternal Mental Health Consultation Liaison service based in Masterton has a vacancy for an experienced mental health nurse to join the team working in the area of perinatal mental health. This is a new opportunity with additional roles to work in the perinatal space alongside Mental Health and Maternity services and community partners in the community. The role will be an evolving one, with increased capacity to support Tangata Whaiora with mental health issues in pregnancy and the post-natal period. The salary range for this role is $75,773 to $106,739 depending on experience.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The Wairarapa team based in Masterton will be part of the Wellington based regional Maternal Mental Health team who work with Tangata Whaiora experiencing significant mental health issues across the district. Clinicians will be Wairarapa based but work with the support of members of the Wellington team to provide client consultations and reviews. 

The clinician will work alongside other health care providers and offer consultation / liaison to health professionals involved in the care of this client group, as well as assessment, and brief intervention.

They will be required to travel to Hutt / Porirua /Wellington at times for orientation, learning and development.

About you

The ideal applicant will have a mental health background, experience working in community and some understanding of issues related to the perinatal period including mother - infant relationship, attachment issues and have the ability to work therapeutically with clients and their whānau.

  • Be a member of a registered professional body with NZ recognized health credentials.
  • Be able to identify common acute mental health presentations including mood and anxiety disorders, trauma, adjustment and related issues.
  • Can work collaboratively with clients developing therapeutic relationships, working with them and their whanau to manage their mental health.
  • Work alongside other health care teams and services in the community and hospital to support continuity of care for women. Offer direct care, co-work and consultation / liaison.
  • The successful applicant is required to hold a driver’s license as the work may include home visiting or clinics across the area.
