Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. Through integration and collaboration, we’re building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whānau-centred care, and excellence.
About the Role
This role will be based in Women’s Clinics at Wellington Hospital. You will use your midwifery expertise, as required, across Antenatal Clinics, Women’s Health Acute Assessment Service (WHAS) and Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) to coordinate and plan care for women with diverse and complex needs. The role will require you to prepare clinics using your midwifery knowledge to coordinate all screening tests and scans, ensuring results are available for the clinic consultation. Your expertise and acute assessment skills will enable you to manage care for women referred to WHAS by General practitioners, Lead Maternity Carers and SMO clinics for early pregnancy issues or for ongoing fetal/maternal surveillance. You will be required to liaise with LMC’s, GPs and other community practitioners, working alongside doctors, other clinic midwives and nurses within the service.
About the Team/Service Location
We are a supportive multi-disciplinary team at the Wellington women’s clinics, consisting of registered nurses, midwives, registered medical officers (RMO’s), senior medical officers (SMO’s), sonographers, healthcare assistants, and administration staff. We can offer great opportunities to enhance your skills across the clinic area and within our dynamic team.
About you
You will need to be an experienced Registered Midwife with a current APC from the Midwifery Council of New Zealand. Ideally you will possess at least 5 years post registration experience and have a good understanding of the Maternity services in New Zealand. Experience across all aspects of maternity care in New Zealand is an advantage. In addition, you will:
- Have the ability to work well in an integrated team.
- Be organised with good time management and the flexibility to embrace strategic change and improvements.
- Have a strong women/whanau centred philosophy.
- Have the ability to work collaboratively with all health professionals to support excellence in maternity/women’s care.
- Understand the importance of liaising with all stakeholders in the hospital and community environment.
- Have strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Be willing and able to perform some non-midwifery duties to ensure efficiency and a seamless management of the service.
