About the Role

We are seeking highly motivated Registered Nurses to join our team.

Our ward has a strong focus on a multidisciplinary team approach to patient care in order to minimise the impact of Cancer and Renal complex conditions on our patients and their families.  High standards of nursing care are achieved through nursing staff striving for excellence in their practice therefore, professional development play an important role in maintaining these standards.

Ward 5 north provides inpatient services for medical oncology, radiation oncology, haematology and renal specialities. We are a 40 bed inpatient ward with close links to the Cancer day ward, radiation therapy and the inpatient haemodialysis units providing a range of specialist services including but not limited to chemotherapy delivery, apheresis, Peritoneal Dialysis and stem cell transplantation and renal transplant. 

Experience with cancer nursing is preferable but not essential. Key skills sought are previous experience with peripheral cannulation, central lines, supportive therapies and blood products. 

The successful candidates will receive a thorough, comprehensive orientation to the service which encompasses oncology, haematology, Renal and radiation therapy, with on-going educational opportunities and support through the PDRP. Furthermore, the successful nurse will also be enrolled in the regional EVIQ ADAC anti-neoplastic learning modules.  Essential attributes for this position are a passion for Renal, Oncology, Haematology and Radiation Therapy Nursing, clinical excellence and enthusiasm, with an expectation to be involved or working towards the PDRP.

Duties

  • Assessment and treatment of Renal, Oncology, Haematology and Radiation Therapy patients.
  • Delivery of chemotherapy and supportive cares such as blood products.
  • Management of Renal Complexities, Peritoneal Dialysis.
  • Assessment of patients prior to chemotherapy/treatment and during intensive treatment programs.
  • Management in providing high standard of care for all acutely ill patients with complex Cancer and Renal needs
  • Renal and Stem Cell transplants.

Someone well-suited to the role will place a high value on the following:

  • Provide nursing care to patients care for a variety of specialities
  • Work in a multidisciplinary team to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care of patients
  • Direct and delegate the team as appropriate to achieve agreed outcomes
  • Work with patients and whanau to provide safe and supportive environment
