Registered Nurse For Ophthalmology Department

Location: Wellington Regional Hospital.
Contract: Permanent Part Time (0.8 FTE) Rostered and Rotating.

About the Role
Registered Nurses are essential to Ophthalmology’s ability to safely manage high and increasing clinical demand. They support both medical clinics and multiple established nurse‑led services ie nurse injector role, undertake complex clinical assessments, and maintain surgical readiness through comprehensive pre‑assessment. The Registered Nurse will respond to the changing needs of the district performing other tasks as required. The Registered Nurse is expected to contribute to the implementation of District and nursing goals and values, and to promote Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley as a centre of excellence for nursing practice.
About the Team/Service Location
Eye Department is based in Wellington Regional Hospital.
About you
Some of the tasks include:
• Assessment of all patients attending the clinic.
• Day to day running/management of specialist clinics.
• Working alongside other members of the Multi-disciplinary team.
• Providing patients with information for procedures, surgery and eye conditions, pre-assessment of those patients undergoing ophthalmic surgery.
• Triaging of patient enquiries.
• There is also a technical role in doing OCT scans, photography, visual fields, minor surgery, and pathway towards becoming a nurse injector (intravitreal injections).
• A comprehensive orientation and training is provided.
Skills & Experience
• Previous Ophthalmic Experience is a plus but not essential.
• Able to work within a Multi-Disciplinary Team.
• Able to adapt to a changing workload at short notice.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• You must have current NZ Nursing Registration.
• A current Visa to work in New Zealand.
• A current Annual Practicing Certificate.
