Location:  Wellington Regional Hospital 

Contract:  Permanent, Part Time 0.8 FTE  Rostered and Rotating shifts 

Salary:     NZNO MECA Step 4 $91,179 to Step 7 $ 106,739- pro rata

About the Role 

We are looking for an experienced and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Surgical Assessment and Planning Unit (SAPU). This fast-paced environment plays a crucial role in providing timely assessment, planning, and management of surgical patients requiring acute care. You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure patients receive high-quality, patient-centred care.

Key responsibilities include:

-Providing comprehensive nursing care for acute surgical patients

-Supporting efficient patient flow and timely interventions

-Collaborating with surgical teams to optimize patient outcomes

-Maintaining accurate documentation and adhering to professional and legal standards

-Contributing to quality improvement initiatives within SAPU

SAPU is a dynamic unit that provides specialized surgical assessment and short-stay care for patients requiring urgent surgical intervention. Our team is dedicated to delivering high standards of care in a supportive and collegial environment. You will be working alongside skilled nurses, surgeons, registrars, and allied health professionals, ensuring a collaborative approach to patient care.

About you 

We are seeking a motivated and adaptable Registered Nurse who thrives in an acute surgical setting. To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • -A current New Zealand Annual Practising Certificate (APC) as a Registered Nurse
  • -Experience in acute surgical or emergency nursing (preferred but not essential)
  • -Strong critical thinking and assessment skills
  • -Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • -A commitment to culturally safe practice and working in partnership with Māori under Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • -A passion for continuous improvement and patient-centered care.
