Registered Nurse Gastroenterology

Location: Wellington Regional Hospital and Kenepuru Hospital

Contract: fixed term 1 year, full time

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. Through integration and collaboration, we’re building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whānau-centred care, and excellence.

About the Role

We are looking for a registered nurse with initiative and enthusiasm looking to take the next step in your career.  Ideally, you will have relevant experience to build on - this could be from working in gastroenterology, or strong medical, surgical, emergency or theatre experience.  This role would suit someone with good communication and assessment skills who is interested in technical endoscopic procedures, and who finds satisfaction in enhancing an individual patient experience. We will provide appropriate training to ensure you can function effectively in your new role.

Our team of registered nurses perform comprehensive preassessments, provide advice when preparing patients for examinations, and assist with endoscopy procedures and monitor patients recovering from sedation.

We would envisage the successful applicant to be able to take on a permanent role over time, however this will be reliant on possible future vacancies.

About the Team/Service Location

Our gastroenterology department provides regional and tertiary services for most aspects of gastroenterology. There is a strong nursing focus on endoscopy and interventional procedures for both adults and, periodically, children in inpatient and outpatient services.

We also offer the opportunity to work across 2 sites - our main site in Wellington, and periodically our bowel screening endoscopy service based out at Kenepuru.

About you

Experience in gastroenterology, endoscopy or perioperative nursing is helpful but not essential.

  • 1 year post grad nursing experience
  • NZNC registration
  • Current APC
  • The legal right to work in New Zealand.
