Registered Nurse or Registered Midwife For Te Mahoe

Location: Wellington Regional Hospital

Contract:  This is a fixed-term position covering parental leave, working 0.8 FTE on a rostered and rotating basis.

About the Role

We are seeking a Registered Nurse or Midwife to join our team at the Regional Termination of Pregnancy Service, Te Mahoe.

Registered Nurses and Midwives at Te Mahoe play a crucial role in providing patient‑centred, culturally safe care that supports people through deeply personal decisions about their sexual and reproductive health. This includes offering clear explanations of procedures, supporting emotional wellbeing, guiding people through each step of their care, and providing education about post‑abortion recovery.

Te Mahoe also functions as the Day Unit for Women’s Clinics, and Registered Nurses provide care and support for people undergoing minor gynaecological procedures.

This is a Monday to Friday role, working mainly 0800–1630, with up to one shift per week from 0700–1530.

After a period of orientation and consolidation, the role holder will also be asked to hold the after‑hours on‑call phone.

The Salary range for this role is Registered Nurse Step 3 – Step 7 NZNO Nursing & Midwifery Collective Agreement or MERAS Midwives Collective Agreement.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Te Mahoe has a small team of dedicated health professionals who provide a regional termination of pregnancy and counselling service. The Team is multidisciplinary consisting of Administration staff, Registered Nurses and Midwives, Doctors, Counsellors/Social Workers and a HealthCare Assistant. We also work alongside staff in Women’s Clinics to support individuals through minor gynaecological procedures. We are a friendly and supportive team, working collaboratively to ensure the best outcomes for the people accessing our service.

.About you

• Ideally, Registered Nurses or Midwives working in Te Mahoe should have a minimum of three years’ relevant nursing experience preferably gained in New Zealand.
• Applicants must hold a current, valid Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ) or Midwifery Council Annual Practising Certificate (APC) and have the legal right to work in New Zealand.
• You will have a strong interest in Women’s Reproductive Health and will receive training to work confidently within the current abortion legislation.
• It is preferable that RN/RMs are certified in IV cannulation and able to administer IV sedation and opioid pain relief. You will be supported to attend the in‑house Safe Sedation Workshop to maintain and update your skills.
• Post‑operative recovery, PACU, or surgical nursing experience is an advantage.
• You must be able to work effectively within a small multidisciplinary team, demonstrating flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing work patterns based on patient needs.
• RNs/RMs are encouraged to join APGANZ (Abortion Providers Group Aotearoa New Zealand) and the Women’s Health College of NZNO to remain current with research, best practice, and developments in this field.
