Registered Nurse - Outpatients Wellington

Contract: Fixed term 1 year, Part time 0.9 FTE rostered and rotating.

About the Role 

Outpatients is a busy ambulatory area servicing the larger Wellington area across both Wellington Hospital and Kenepuru Hospital. The outpatient clinics are patient and Whanau-focused. The outpatient department consults, treats and refers patients across their healthcare journey from their First Specialist Appointments to Follow-ups. Ensuring advocacy, patient education and clinical decision making are top priorities of an Outpatient nurse, in an environment with constant changes to clinics. Being a team player is essential.

You will have a passion for nursing and an appreciation for the Outpatient team and the importance of this role across the patient’s journey – Through to their first appointment and further follow-ups. This is a great opportunity for a secondment role within the hospital.

About the Team/Service Location

Wellington Regional Hospital is the region’s main tertiary centre, and Kenepuru Community Hospital provides a wide range of secondary services. Outpatients plays a critical role in delivering timely access to specialist care across both sites. 

About you 

  • Deliver safe, effective, evidence-based nursing care that is person- and whānau-centred and culturally appropriate.
  • At least 5 years’ experience as a nurse, ideally experience in vascular, surgical and neurosurgery specialities.
  • Provide and coordinate advanced wound care, including assessment, treatment planning, and ongoing management.
  • Assist with biopsies and minor procedures, maintaining strict aseptic technique.
  • Ensure continuity of care across the outpatient journey, supporting coordinated and timely patient management.
  • Maintain high standards of patient safety, quality improvement, and advocacy in all aspects of practice.
  • Demonstrate strong core nursing competencies, including communication, administration, problem-solving, and safe management of aseptic technique.
  • Coordinate and manage specialist outpatient clinics to a high standard.
  • Build effective professional relationships with nursing, medical, and administrative teams to support efficient clinic flow.
  • Respond flexibly to service demands and contribute to District and nursing goals, promoting Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley as a centre of excellence.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development, including PDRP and post-graduate study, supported by a committed nursing team.
