Registered Nurse - Piko and Kōwhai Children's Ward

Location: Wellington Regional Hospital - Children’s ward, Te Wao Nui
Contract: Multiple positions are available, including permanent roles (0.8 FTE) and fixed term roles covering parental leave (1.0 FTE). All roles are rostered and rotating, including weekdays, weekends, and night shifts.

About the Role
We are seeking experienced and motivated Registered Nurses to join Piko Ward (medical) and Kōwhai Ward (surgical). This is an excellent opportunity to further develop your paediatric nursing expertise while delivering high-quality, family-centred care to children of all ages.
The successful candidate will have experience working with paediatric patients, the ability to work both independently and within a multidisciplinary team, and strong organisational skills to manage a dynamic workload. The salary range is MECA RN Step 2-7 or $81,683 - $106,739 pro rata for part time.
Available positions:
01.0 FTE (80 hours per fortnight) or less will be considered
Potential for ongoing employment at the end of the fixed term (not guaranteed)
0.8 FTE (64 hours per fortnight)
All roles involve 8-hour rotating shifts, including nights and weekends.

About the Team/Service/ Location
The Child Health Service for the Wellington Region and Central New Zealand is a tertiary service delivering specialised medical and surgical care for children up to 16 years of age. Services include inpatient, outpatient, day patient, and domiciliary care. Within Te Wao Nui, the Piko and Kōwhai wards provide dedicated inpatient care for hospitalised children.
Piko Ward (medical) has 23 inpatient beds and a 9-bed Short Stay Unit (SSU), caters for children requiring short-term care and observation.
Kōwhai Ward (surgical) has 17 inpatient beds and a 12-bed Children’s Day Stay (CDS), which caters for children requiring short-term care post day procedures and surgery. The service also incorporates a weekday area that provides support for the Children’s Cancer Service.
About you
- Demonstrated clinical knowledge and competence in paediatric nursing; surgical experience is desirable
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment that values teamwork
- Willingness to learn and develop
- Comprehensive orientation and training provided
Skills and experience
- Minimum 12 months nursing experience. Previous paediatric nursing experience essential
- A current Annual Practising Certificate
- Completed CAP/NETP Programme

- Hold a current work visa or have the legal right to work in New Zealand
