Registered Nurse - Women’s Clinics


Location: Wellington Regional Hospital, Women’s Clinics

Contract:  Permanent, Part Time 0.6 FTE Rostered and Rotating – the ability to be able to flex up to cover leave - desirable

About the Role 

This role will be based in Women’s Clinics at Wellington Hospital.  You will use your nursing expertise, as required, Gynaecology, Colposcopy, Preassessment clinics and Women’s Health Acute Assessment Service (WHAS) to coordinate and plan care for women with diverse and complex needs. The role will require you to prepare clinics using your nursing knowledge to coordinate all screening tests and scans, ensuring results are available for the clinic consultation. Your expertise and acute assessment skills will enable you to manage care for women referred to WHAS by General practitioners, Lead Maternity Carers (LMC’s) and Senior Medical Officers (SMO’s)  for early pregnancy issues or other gynaecological conditions. You will be required to liaise with Practice Nurses, GPs, LMC’s and other community practitioners, working alongside doctors, other clinic nurses and midwives within the service. The service does outreach clinics at Kenepuru Hospital, Kapiti Health Centre and colposcopy clinics based in Marae and Community GP Practices.

About the Team/Service Location 

We are a supportive multi-disciplinary team at the Wellington women’s clinics, consisting of registered nurses, midwives, registered medical officers (RMO’s), senior medical officers (SMO’s), sonographers, healthcare assistants, and administration staff. We can offer great opportunities to enhance your skills across the clinic area and within our dynamic team.

About you 

You will need to be an experienced Registered Nurse with a current APC from the Nursing Council of New Zealand.  Ideally you will possess at least 5 years post registration experience, and have a good understanding of Women’s Health in New Zealand.  Experience in Gynaecology inpatient setting, outpatients or Primary Health New Zealand is an advantage. In addition you will: 

  • Have the ability to work well in an integrated team
  • Be organised with good time management and the flexibility to embrace strategic change and improvements
  • Have a strong women/whanau centred philosophy
  • Have the ability to work collaboratively with all health professionals to support excellence in women’s care
  • Understand the importance of liaising with all stakeholders in the hospital and community environment
  • Have strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Be willing and able to perform some nursing duties to ensure efficiency and a seamless management of the service.
