Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role
We have vacancy for a part-time position, for a Sonographer providing obstetric ultrasound imaging for the Women’s Health service, at a community ultrasound clinic based in Porirua.
The multidisciplinary team in the Women’s Health Service is dedicated to providing tertiary level obstetric and gynaecological care. Ultrasound services are delivered in Wellington and Kenepuru hospitals, and in the near future, from a community health clinic in Porirua named Te Puna Wairua, where this role will be based.
This clinic aims to provide perinatal care to pregnant patients who may be unable to access healthcare through current channels. The outcomes we achieve for our patients at this clinic may shape the future of community-led perinatal public healthcare across New Zealand.
Initial training and orientation to the Women’s ultrasound service will be completed at Wellington Hospital in the Women’s Ultrasound department.
As an ultrasonographer, you are an integral member of the Women’s Health Service team, who in this role will be working closely with the midwifery and obstetrics teams at Te Puna Wairua to offer ultrasound services in a primary care setting.
Examinations performed include dating, NT, anatomy and growth scans.
If you are passionate about providing high quality imaging in a community ultrasound environment, and are confident working independently off-site from the reporting Specialist, then this role is for you.
Mō tō mātou rōpū – About our team
The ultrasound technicians at Women’s Health have a close relationship with our obstetricians, gynaecologists, sonologists, and midwifery team. The close-knit, collaborative nature of our team fosters a respectful relationship between sonographers and other clinicians. We aim to provide high level diagnostic scans and reports which directly contribute to our patient’s care.
As a tertiary level centre, sonographers support the training and upskilling of sonography students as well as obstetrics and gynaecology registrars. For the right applicant, a role in the Maternal Fetal Medicine department is also available.
Moū – About you
Successful applicants will be registered and hold an APC with the NZ MRTB and Nuchal Translucency certification with the Fetal Medicine Foundation.
You will be passionate about providing high quality diagnostic obstetric ultrasounds and equitable healthcare for our most vulnerable populations.
Your technical skills will include early pregnancy dating scans, nuchal translucency, morphology and growth scans.
Working as a sole sonographer in a community setting, you will be confidant referring patients to acute services or referring specialists when necessary.
