Specialist Cardiac Physiologist

Location: This position is expected to work primarily from Wellington hospital

Service:    Cardiology Service

Contract:  12 month fixed-term, part-time (0.8 FTE)

Salary:  $117,420 - $122,570 (pro-rated)

Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role

This is a fixed-term position to cover parental leave to January 2026. In this role, you will demonstrate strong evidence-based practice, provide clinical leadership to others and identify, monitor and maintain equipment required for investigations and procedures. You will also be required to provide highly specialised training to trainees and qualified staff, including other staffing groups such as cardiology registrars. 

Other duties include:

  • Applying highly developed specialist practical and theoretical knowledge within specialty/subspecialty area/s including knowledge of all modalities in the specialty area.
  • Communicating and documenting comprehensively and effectively, providing full and detailed reports. 
  • Contributing to the development of clinical policies and protocols. 
  • Publish and/or present at local, national and/or international meetings
  • Investigate and alert others to learnings from local experience, relevant journal articles and international guidelines
  • Contribute to service development through clinical audit, research and quality improvement activities at local and regional levels.

Mō tō mātou rōpū – About our team

The Cardiology Service is a Secondary and Tertiary service provided for Health New Zealand, Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley (CC & HV) and those of the central region of New Zealand.

Cardiology at CC & HV includes:

  • Outpatient Clinics
  • Cardiac Diagnostic Testing
  • The Heart and Lung Unit
  • Cardiac Interventional Suite, providing the following procedures: Coronary Angiograms
  • Left & right heart studies
  • Coronary intervention and CTO
  • Balloon Valvuloplasty and TAVI
  • PFO/ASD/LAA Closure
  • Pacing, ICD and CRT implants
  • Electrophysiology Studies, 3D mapping and Ablation

Cardiac Physiology Service includes:

  • Pacing/ICD follow-up service, including remote monitoring and travelling clinics
  • Cath Lab, Device Implants and Electrophysiology
  • Echocardiography
  • Exercise Tolerance Testing
  • Ambulatory monitoring- Holters, Events & BP
  • Electrocardiography
  • Training of Provisional Cardiac Physiologists, Cardiac Physiology Technicians and other Health Care staff
  • On call service

Clinical Physiology provides a full range of diagnostic testing as an integral part of the Cardiology Service.

The CC & HV Cardiology Service is accredited as an SCT training facility.

Knowledge, skills & Experience:

  • Preferably six+ years practicing in the specialty area 
  • Practice and further training has been completed, demonstrating a high level of clinical competence in a specialty area, EP and/or Devices. 
  • Ability to teach, lead & and mentor developing staff in area of speciality

Essential Professional Qualifications / Accreditations / Registrations:

  • Current Annual Practising Certificate
  • Membership of SCT
  • BSc
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Cardiac Technology
  • International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE)  and/or The Cardiac Electrophysiology Institute of Australasia (CEPIA) Graduate Diploma
