Speciality Clinical Nurse - Gastroenterology

Location: Wellington Regional Hospital and Kenepuru Hospital

Contract: 0.8 FTE IBD fixed term Specialty Clinical Nurse (18 months)

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. Through integration and collaboration, we’re building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whānau-centred care, and excellence.

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated nurse to join our senior nursing gastroenterology team working as speciality clinical nurse (SCN) for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).  This is a 0.8 FTE 18 month fixed term role.

We would ideally like the successful applicant to be able to take on a permanent role over time, however this will be reliant on possible future vacancies. Days of work and potential split of FTE between two candidates would be discussed in the interview process and with any offer.

We are looking for a nurse or two nurses with an interest in gastroenterology who are looking to broaden their nursing career. Comprehensive training and ongoing support will be provided by our current IBD team.

We currently have two IBD clinical nurse specialists who work closely with our Gastroenterologists. The SCN will provide support to our current Clinical nurse specialists (CNS), provide and coordinate the care of our patients with inflammatory bowel disease and be a key member of the Gastroenterology team. You would grow your expertise in IBD to ensure patients have ease of access to speciality advice and care, working alongside our current team

About the Team/Service Location

Our gastroenterology department provides regional and tertiary services for most aspects of gastroenterology. There is a strong nursing focus on endoscopy and interventional procedures for both adults and, periodically, children in inpatient and outpatient services.

We also offer the opportunity to work across 2 sites - our main site in Wellington, with a possibility of working periodically at Kenepuru.

About you

  • Current Work visa/right to work in NZ
  • Current Registered Nurse APC
  • Excellent communication skills and be innovative and forward thinking
  • You will hold or planning to work towards a relevant post graduate qualification.
