Speciality Clinical Nurse - Wellington Crisis Resolution Service

About the Role

The role of the Speciality Clinical Nurse (SCN) for the Wellington Crisis Resolution Service is an exciting new senior nurse position based in the Wellington Locality. The SCN role will enhance health outcomes for tāngata whaiora, by practising with increased autonomy to provide assessment, interventions (pharmacological and non-pharmacological) and education. The role is responsible for;

• Providing mental health triage and assessments to determine treatment planning.
• Engaging with whanau or support people to ensure robust assessment and planning.
• Considers treatment options within the least restrictive environment and champions home-based and community treatment.
• Work alongside staff to provide advice/consultation for people with complex mental health presentations.
• Contributes to service specific pathways, protocols and guidelines that reflect best practice, in accordance with current evidence to ensure safe care.
• Initiates and contributes to quality improvements and engages with the services Quality Coordinator.

 About the Team

The Wellington Crisis Resolution Service is a multidisciplinary group of mental health professionals who work collaboratively to provide timely assessment and treatment to individuals presenting with acute mental health needs in the Wellington Locality. The service operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and assesses people in a variety of settings. The Service provides culturally safe interventions, and integrated support for tāngata whaiora and their whānau.

About you

Essential qualifications, skills and qualifications:

• Registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand.
• A current practising certificate.
• Completion of an undergraduate (leading to registration) or post graduate programme in mental health nursing.
• Three years mental health nursing experience, with demonstrated proficiency in mental health crisis assessment, formulation, planning and implementation of care.
• Demonstrates an understanding of the significance of and obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, including how to apply Te Tiriti principles in a meaningful way in the nursing role.
• Master’s in nursing or enrolment in same.
