Speech Language Therapist
Location: Kapiti Health Centre
Contract: Permanent, Full Time

About the Role
Would you like to join a friendly health-care team delivering community assessment and intervention to people in their homes? The Kapiti Older Adult, Rehabilitation and Allied Health Service has a vacancy for a full-time Speech Language therapist. The role receives referrals from primary and secondary health services. This role involves both Outpatient clinic and home visits. Knowledge and experience of swallowing and communication difficulties at all stages is required. Your caseload will include people with swallowing/communication difficulties post-stroke, and a range of degenerative, neurological conditions such as Parkinsons disease. From time to time, you will be required to attend videofluoroscopy appointments in Wellington.
About the Team/Service Location
The Kapiti ORA team is a friendly and supportive group. We are mostly based in the Kapiti Health Centre in sunny Paraparaumu. Close to the beach and located centrally it’s a convenient location for public transport, shops and local services. The Kapiti ORA is a multidisciplinary team who enjoy working together to produce good patient outcomes. We value patient-centred practice, and exploring creative solutions which increase independence and safety for our patient group. We work hard, and value robust clinical discussion for best outcomes. About you
- You need to be a qualified and New Zealand registered Speech Language Therapist with a current practicing certificate.
- You will have experience working with older people experiencing a range of functional and neurological health challenges including dementia, frailty, stroke, swallowing and communication barriers.
- You can manage a caseload independently, but work well with the wider team for collaborative, patient-centred assessment and intervention.
- You communicate kindly, clearly and effectively, working with compassion and care for your patients, team and yourself.
- You are a confident writer and speaker and use your skills to actively participate in our MDT and wider service meetings.
- You have an awareness of the social determinants of health and the wider cultural and psychosocial context of wellbeing.
- As this role is community based, you will be comfortable with home visits, and hold a full, current driver license.
