Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. Through integration and collaboration, we’re building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whānau-centred care, and excellence.
About the Role
Salary: $77,087 - $110,210
We are seeking two Speech-language Therapists (SLTs) to join our inpatient team at Wellington Regional Hospital. The team comprises 11 SLTs working across paediatric services, acute inpatient, and outpatient settings. These positions are currently part-time and fixed-term but may provide a valuable stepping stone into a career in health for the right candidate. In this role, you will assess and manage adults with a range of communication and swallowing disorders, primarily in acute medical and surgical wards. Experience in videofluoroscopic swallowing studies (VFSS) and flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) is desirable but not essential. You will be an active member of multi-disciplinary teams, and there may be opportunities for additional hours across the wider Capital & Coast services. For more information, please contact the team leader.
About the Team/Service/Location
We are a close-knit, sociable team, with a wide range of experience and interests. We provide cross-cover to support each other and are well connected to our wider Allied Health whānau. We have a well-developed programme of continuing professional development, including involvement in SIGs, a district-wide quarterly wānanga, and access to a range of online and face-to-face learning opportunities. We have a reputation for excellence and regularly participate in quality improvement opportunities to grow the level of service we provide to our patients and their whānau.
About you
The ideal candidate will have experience working with adults who have acquired communication and swallowing disorders, ideally within an acute inpatient setting. However, we also welcome applications from clinicians who may not have worked in a health setting but demonstrate strong clinical reasoning, excellent communication skills, and an ability to build effective working relationships. Experience in videofluoroscopic swallowing studies (VFSS) and/or flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) is highly desirable. You will be committed to culturally safe practice that promotes health equity and reflects our obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Membership with the New Zealand Speech-language Therapists’ Association (NZSTA) is required.
