Speech-language Therapist


Location: Wellington Regional Hospital

About the Roles

Salary: $77,087 - $107,600 (pro rata)

Two positions are available within the Speech-Language Therapy (SLT) team at Wellington Hospital. These roles involve working across inpatient and outpatient services.

The successful applicants will provide assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for adults with a range of conditions, including complex medical presentations, head and neck cancer, stroke, progressive neurological disorders, trauma and laryngeal disorders.

The roles require the ability to work independently in the management of communication and swallowing disorders, and to contribute as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure effective patient care. 

We are particularly keen to hear from applicants who have experience working with patients with head and neck cancer, and voice and airway disorders. We are also looking for candidates who have experience providing gender affirming voice therapy. Skills in video fluorosocopic swallow studies (VFSS) and flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallow (FEES) are also highly sought. 

About the Team/Service Location 

We are a close-knit team who provide a high quality SLT service. We are a group of 11 SLTs who work across inpatient and outpatient services, both adults and paediatrics. Our team includes an Advanced Head and Neck Cancer Clinician, an Expert Dysphagia SLT and a Critical Care Educator. We are committed to growing our service, and you will have the opportunity to be involved in quality improvement projects. We support our staff to develop their knowledge base and clinical skills through clinical teaching and competency sign-off. 

About you 

You are a NZSTA-registered Speech-language Therapist with eligibility to work in Aotearoa / New Zealand. You have experience working in a health setting with adults who present with communication and swallowing disorders, including head and neck cancer. Ideally, you have competency in instrumental swallowing assessments such as FEES and VFSS, as well as laryngectomy and tracheostomy management.
