Team Leader – Allied Health Outpatients

Location: Wellington, Kenepuru and Hutt Hospitals

Contract: Permanent, Part time (0.6FTE/24 hours per week)

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.

About the Role

Are you a talented Allied Health leader or an Allied Health Professional who is ready for the move into leadership?  This is an exciting opportunity for someone to lead a highly skilled and experienced team of Allied Health professionals working in the outpatient setting.  Working across the district, this role provides day to day leadership and management of the team and develops and maintains strong relationships with clinical partners and other stakeholders.

This role is part time and, as you are managing people, hours will need to be spread across the week; however the structure of your working week is negotiable.

The focus of the role is also to:

  • Provide day-to-day, on the ground leadership for the Outpatient team, and play an active part in the wider Allied Health leadership rōpū
  • Ensure services are organised and delivered in a way that makes the best use of the resources we have
  • Provide clinical leadership that supports safe and effective patient care
  • Identify, lead and support quality improvement activities that achieve improved health outcomes and an improved experience for individuals, whānau and our wider communities
  • Motivate and inspire others to perform to their best

You will also work in collaboration with Professional Leaders for each profession on issues including workforce development and service improvements.

Whilst the role does not have a clinical component attached to it, at times the team leader may need to provide the team leadership around clinical service delivery and care so a current APC is essential.

About the Team/Service Location

The Outpatient Allied Health team works across the district, providing service in Wellington, Hutt Valley, Porirua and Kāpiti.  The team includes podiatrists, specialist physiotherapists (including those working in pelvic health, lymphoedema and haemophilia) and renal social workers and dietitians.

All of our Allied Health clinicians work together to form a strong multidisciplinary team to best support the needs of patients, therefore you will also work closely with leaders and clinicians from a range of professions.

This role works alongside other outpatient Team Leaders and Charge Nurse Managers, as well as in collaboration with other leaders across the Community, Older Adults and Allied Health Group.  As the clinicians within this team work closely with other specialist services, you will also develop strong relationships with leaders from across the organisation.

About you

You will be a qualified Allied Health professional with a current APC who has a passion for leadership and clinical excellence.  Ideally you’ve got experience in leadership roles, or can share with us how you have developed your leadership kete through service development, quality improvement or other forms of clinical leadership.

You will also be passionate about the role of Allied Health and the impact that Allied Health professions have on improving equity of outcomes for our people.  You will be someone who can think innovatively and lead people through change.

You’ll have a commitment to upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a desire to work positively to improve health outcomes for Māori.
