Service:   Radiology Services

Contract: Full time/part time, permanent/fixed term

Salary:     As per ASMS SECA

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. Through integration and collaboration, we’re building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whānau-centred care, and excellence.

About the role

Our Radiology service is undergoing significant growth to meet rising demand and deliver on Health New Zealand’s national health targets. As part of this expansion, we have increased our Consultant/Senior Medical Officer (SMO) FTE across the department and are now seeking additional Radiologists to support our enlarged service. We have also grown our workforce of Registrars, Medical Imaging Technologists (MITs), and MRI Technologists - strengthening our ability to deliver high‑quality, timely imaging and improve equity of access for our communities.

As part of our commitment to innovation, we are proud to be among the first in Australasia to introduce Photon Counting CT (PCCT) scanners—with one at Kenepuru Hospital and installed into Wellington Hospital later in 2026.  This next-generation imaging technology will significantly enhance cardiac, neuro, vascular and Paediatric diagnostics, offering ultra-sharp imaging and revealing abnormalities previously undetectable with conventional CT.

This is your chance to work in a service that is embracing the future of radiology—where digital tools complement clinical expertise to deliver better outcomes for our patients.

Clinical responsibilities include:

  • Reporting and supervising imaging lists (e.g. CT, MRI, Ultrasound)
  • Participation in fluoroscopy procedures as appropriate to the specialty
  • Leading and contributing to clinical meetings/MDMs and liaising with referring clinicians
  • Teaching and supervision of radiology trainees (RANZCR years 1–5)
  • Participation in the diagnostic radiology on-call roster as appropriate

We have fixed‑term role available, if you would like to join us for a experience life in the capital, and see whether Wellington becomes your next long‑term home.
